Early in my career I sold Property Management Systems to Hotels, Resorts and Condominiums. Back then these were text based systems, another words; Green Text and CRT terminals. The IBM Series/1 was classified as a mini computer, yet they were quite large and expensive. The Hardware alone with 128 KB of memory and a hard disk of not even 10MB, would run a customer over 100,000.00 just for the main processor, not including all the terminals and installation and training, so the costs went way higher. Really is amazing when you consider the power of your phone vs these specifications.
Later on the industry was demanding Windows solution, based on the Y2K scare. I went on to sell the first Windows-based Property Management System solutions. The OS was Windows NT, it was I believe the first OS to run 32bit. It took many years of refinement and development to get these systems to approach the operational efficiencies of the old text based systems.
So for many years not only was I selling Windows Networks, I was using Windows and Microsoft applications for my work and home requirements. I think we all have our favorite version of Windows. Mine was Windows 7.
Utube has me in their sites as someone who is dissatisfied with Windows 10/11. I watched countless videos of folks demonstrating their moves from Windows to Linux, for the same issues that were bugging me. With so many old PC’s around the house, I decided to go ahead and install Linux Mint. I realized quickly the many benefits as I have outlined on the web page.
